Throwing with Purpose

Looking to make pots that come alive with clarity and purpose? In this workshop we will focus on developing an intimate and intuitive connection with the material and an open, generous approach to technique.

Through a series of demonstrations and direct, individual instruction we will explore the relationship between function and form, tradition and innovation, material and experience.

Particular emphasis will be put on developing the skills necessary in a production oriented studio. We will investigate a series of forms from the simple cup to complex teapots and large jars, utilizing time honored techniques such as throwing off the hump, coiled and paddled vessels, and using simple press molds to work in multiples. 

We will also discuss a variety of decorative slip and glazing techniques and dig into the world of ash glazes for stoneware pots.
